Just tested the beta firmware on 5GHZ with my moto g5 plus and Chromecast, no browsing problems (I had DNS errors before), good bandwidth and Chromecast works as it should. Only drawback is the coverage, which doesn't improve compared to my ZTE router (provided by my ISP).

It did not run smoothly for me, I had 2.4Ghz stop working for several minutes while streaming stopped on my shieldTV on 5Ghz, and my laptop stoped all while still connected. I'll report back if it happens again tonight.

Has the coverage been reduced by this beta firmware, or was it always like that?

I've actually been able to recreate this issue on demand by creating temporary interference on my wifi signal. After the interference is gone the wifi slowly degraded until unusable. From my PC I had little to no upstream packet loss but downstream would start around 16% loss and ramp up until 60%+ then 2.4 (connected to) would drop, 5g was still usable by other devices. I'm on my phone right now but will post a more detailed write-up in a few hours with test results.

About the coverage, I'm unable to answer whether it is less good now or not, I hadn't measured before, as it just didn't work properly. My only reference is the other router I use.

Re: Isolated and fixed router connection drop offs

I tested and found the safest adjusted beacon interval is 200 for my tablet.  With my old router 100 was my safest for no drop offs.  I recently bumped it to 250 as a preferred setting by Openwrt.  Seems like my tablet never has done well with modified beacon intervals, since setting it internally for 160, as a battery saver option. At least I pointed out and proved broadcom wireless adapters are a bit of trouble if not aware of their issues. If you experience drop offs, decrement the beacon interval about 10  from your existing  setting and monitor at the weakest area. It may need another adjustment until drop offs stop completely. 50 is the minimum you want to set at, though many say 50 is the most compatibility, which I found later in some searching.

Thanks for getting back to me:

Yes I have turned off the DHCP from the 9200, I want my ISP router to do all the IP handouts right now. I also want 1 big complete network, where everything - no matter what its connected to - can see and talk to eachother.

I figured that the red X was likely because I don't have anything in the wan port (although sometimes it does show that I have internet and goes all green, but then switches back to red?).

I'm also seeing all my devices on the network map - so thats great, looks like my network is being treated as 1 big network.

Wifi settings are as follows, I have my ISP router set to channel 1, the 9200 set to channel 11. I've turned OFF band steering, but left all 3 networks enabled.  I currently have different SSID's for my ISP router, and my 9200 just so I can test and fine tune. I will likely convert the 9200's ssid to match that of my main router this weekend.

Hi All,

A quick update for the BETA USERS of the WRT3200ACM.

Greetings all BETA USERS for the ACM. We have loaded a new beta onto the FTP site (same address as the one that you have in your private messages)

If you have been testing already please update to this new Firmware version 1.0.186143

This version seems to resolve the sleep / wake issues some users reported with their phones and chromecasts. I have been running it in my lab today, and it seems very promising.

PM me if you have questions... to everyone else we are getting very close, if this round goes well we could be headed towards final resolution shortly.

Running the BETA for the WRT32x

Never had dropping WiFi with my previous 225 firmware but alot of functionalities in the router admin page wasn't working well. The new BETA works very well in solving most of my issues and WiFi strength seems to have improved tremendously for me. 225 firmware had poor sustainable WiFi strength and the new one is rock solid.

I hope minor bugs can be quashed and a full release can be finalized soon without introducing any other problems. This BETA seems like a good foundation for better firmwares. At least from my testing over the last 12 hours. Will update further if I notice anything else.

Cheers!

Hi bozojoe,

You should be able to set a static DNS on to your router directly, so you don't need to set the DNS server IPs on each computer manually.  You can put the DNS of Google or OpenDNS on these Static DNS fields under connectivity tab.  This will then be given to your computers that will request for DHCP IP address from the router.

How big are you talking? Do you know the square footage, and how many floors?

Linksys quite have a range of routers.  Best might be really depending on the budget you have, to get the best bang for the buck.

If budget is not an issue, we have to ask what current devices you have and how big the home really is in terms of sqft.  If this is a typical big house home with probably wireless smart automations, appliances, computers, laptops, smartphones and tablets.  I can suggest the VELOP mesh system for you.  You can find more of the product on this link https://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-WHW0303/.  You may need 2 sets of these if you really have a very large household.

If in case budget is a concern, you will need to do some a bit of trial and add.  Meaning, buy one router, then extend it to the needed places in your house.  If you buy a router and bunch of range extenders outright, this may not be a good step since you may find out later that either you puchase too many extenders or you bought the wrong router for your devices, so better get the Velop in this case.  We really need know what kind of devices you have since these devices have wirelees standards.  Wireless standard AC is just becoming common on households, but if mixed with wireless N standards it may not perform well due to mixed standards.  Usually wireless N standards are a bit old devices.  So if you have alot more N than AC devices at home, it is better to get them all running on N than AC unless you buy a tri-band router.  Here are a few suggested router to buy.

Triband best router in case you have mixed N and AC devices is EA9500.  A bit pricey but can do the job well.  Combined it to RE9000 (https://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-RE9000/) repeater to extend the signal more.  Almost will reach the Velop pricepoint but sometimes EA9500 (https://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-EA9500/) is already enough to get signal on a big house.

Dual band router which you will need to buy if you have more N devices than AC devices with the best value is EA8500 (https://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-EA8500/)  You can extend this using RE7000 (https://www.linksys.com/us/p/P-RE7000/).

I can't give you a straight forward answer to that, but AFAIK it should take a firmware update to be able to support it, probably depending on how old the unit is of course...

Probably the same with wireless adapter drivers. But, again I am not totally sure yet.

Hi Piotr,

Too early to tell which current devices can handle the WPA3.  I bet if WPA3 implementation is just a software update and will depend on the processor of the router, it can be implemented to probably to all router that can do the computation.

If WPA3 requires additional hardware inside the router such as additional CPU instruction set, this may not be possible to be added then on the exisiting Linksys routers but just the future ones.

Let's wait Smiley Happy and see what happens.

Make sure that the firmware of your Velop System is updated, jo_strasser. Then, let us know if the LED is still blinking so we can forward your case to our 2nd Level Support for further diagnosis.

Hi, aladino52.
Please make sure to update the firmware version of your router. Try to play around with the wireless channels as well. If the issue persists, reset your router to its factory default and reconfigure it.

Wtr32x beta looks stable for me. Have 5 google devices hooked up. 2 android phone, nvidia shield, fire stick and android tv. No drops or performance degrade in last 20 hours.
