Please let us know the response from the engineers. I returned my WRT1900AC (RMA) because I was having a lot of problems with it, and an EA8500 is on my way as a replacement!

Please let us know if they are going to fix the memory leak bug with the EA8500.

Thanks!

This issue might not effect you since it isn't a common issue amoung EA8500 owners.

But this is a firmware/software issue. It will affect every EA8500.

Try disabling the router's WMM under Media Prioritization. That usually does the trick.

Most may not notice the reboots, as John mentions above. And reboot takes about 2 minutes or less, which is very quick.

Chads yet,

I'm not sure any other device is communicating with the alljoyn daemon. With wifi disabled and nothing connected via WAN, Ethernet or USB (it say on my desk like a paperweight), mine rebooted after 2 hours 43 minutes. It's sitting next my computer and I was able to watch it while working. John and others had the same happen with theirs earlier in this thread, so whatever is going on (like memory leak due to out-of-control process) doesn't require external communications to make the router exhaust memory and reboot.

This should be very easy to reproduce if true.

I wil try to reproduce this exaclty as you mention this afternoon.

How was the EA8500 physically connected to your computer\network and how did you monitor the EA8500 for reboot?

I don't agree. IMO this isn't effecting everyone because we would have a lot more users participating in this thread. I have a tester evaluating the EA8500 in his home without this issue and if he did he's not the type of guy to let it go because his family wouldn't allow that Smiley Very Happy

Two to three minutes is a very long pause in Internet Time and if it occurred every 3 hours no one could live with that for long.

Agree. Specially if you do a lot of streaming. My wife uses Netflix and YouTube most of the time and I stream videogames. It is annoying having your stream to be interrupted, even if it is only a couple of minutes.

But that's besides the point. It shouldn't restart at all. No matter if most people won't notice.

shouldn't need the cd. put 192.168.1.1 in a browser address bar and you should get the log in screen. If you don't have the password, try 'admin' but if that doesn't work you will have to do a reset and start over..

The EA8500 is connected to the XFinity Arris TG1682G eMTA Gateway via Ethernet from Ethernt Port 1 to the WAN port in the EA8500, then via wifi or Ethernet from there.

Setting the Arris to Bridge or using DMZ do NOT change the behavior of the EA8500 at all.

I monitored the router by literally watching it, like I said in my post. It was sitting on my desk like a paperweight. And when the Linksys started flashing I knew it was rebooting.

try turning off ipv6 and set the channel width to 20mhz only on the 2.4 and see if that helps.

Ok I will test with a Ethernet Internet connection on the EA8500 WAN and a single computer on the EA8500 LAN Ethernet.

Logo flashing also occurs if there is a temporary interruption in Internet service. The only true way to check for a reboot is to check the uptime in sysinfo.cgi or notice all the lights go off on the back of the EA8500 and those back lights go through the boot sequence.

I mean its an open netwrk that you give a pssword to, hence, no WPA2 encryption on the wireless signal.

Hello Chad.

This is Boris the router went down. I am not sure when. I had to restart it in the morning when I got to work.

Probably was down about 15min. Since I checked it on my phone before I left the house and it was still working.

Memory is being Used very fast. When I restarted it was 159000

Thanks for the update. No need to test with the EA8500 connected (this way) to the modem any longer.

IMO you proved that the reboot occurs in fairly short order when connected to the Comcast\Cable modem. Is your cable modem configured in bridge mode where a Public IP Address is give to any router that is connected to it?

Can you configure your modem as a router with NAT? If you can that would be a good uptime test because the AllJoy multicast communication might be stopped by NAT in the modem unless multicast passthrough is enabled in the modem.

Hello Chad

Doesn't any of your engeneer have a Comcast ISP at home? You can connect to my ISP Remotely on Friday through Sunday if you need. As long as you can identify yourself as Employees of Linksys.

Tell me detailed instructions how to access the modem? I will change it however you want after work.

I'm an independent contractor with Linksys hence the orange coloring on my forum username.

I don't know Linksys engineering's testing and QA process so can't speak regarding that.

That's a nice offer of the remote access to your network but I don't think it will be necessary due to all the data coming in now.

What we need is pcaps of the communication coming from the modem only or between the modem and EA8500 (not easily done) on an effected network.

To capture pcaps of the modem only communications all you do is connect a computer directly to the modem and start Wireshark capture on the Ethernet adapter used. Then we can filter for AllJoy communications. It would be even better to temporarily disable all protocols and clients under the Ethernet adapter's properties to capture only modem communications for isolation.
