Re: Linksys EA9500: FTP issues

Any chance of the DD-WRT becoming available for the V2?
I would like to get away from the old firmware, and it seems nothing is being done about it.
I am still running firmware from 2018, with no updates in sight.

Wired Connection

I tried just using a wired connection with my WRT 3200ACM and I get a lot of buffering on my TV.  Wired connection worked fine with my old Netgear Router but not my new Linksys Router.  Would it work better if I shut off WIFI?  I have no need for WIFI unless I have to use it so I don't have any buffering.   If I shut off WIFI will that stop me from connecting to Linksys?

Thank you.

I've just encountered this issue after having this problem firmware for quite some time. Never gonna believe what I did to fix it.. Turns out, I think somehow the TimeZone had been changed to different TZ than what I had previously. Fortunately, my Linksys app on my iphone could still communicate with it. That's how I saw the TZ change. I changed it back to Eastern on the iphone app, closed out my browser window on Mac and reopened and started login again. Worked fine! No reset to factory defaults required... WEIRD..

The EA9500 reached EOL a long time ago. Why they keep selling it I have no idea. Its full of security holes that never got fixed along with bugs.

EA7300 Folder Access not working properly.

All, I've had this EA7300 for a couple years now. I've never setup Folder Access. I just decided to do it. I've got a 128gb MicroSD card in a USB adapter connected to my router. The router sees it. I can setup shares, and user ID's, however, when using Folder Access with ANY ID in there, I cannot connect with my Macbook Air to it. Only if I turn off Folder Access can I connect. This setup would let anyone on my network connect to it. I don't want that. I need to have Folder Access work the way it was intended. I have firmware 1.0.11.200282. Could this be another buggy issue with this firmware? Using Mac OS Catalina 10.15.5. Any ideas?

Below are some of my standard Smart Wifi firmware recommendations:

Optimal settings:

  1. Enable Media Prioritization with Downstream Bandwidth set to ISP maximum download speed in mbps * 1024 for kbps or 0kbps
  2. Enable WMM Support (Default)
  3. Wireless 5Ghz Protocol Mixed
  4. Wireless 5Ghz Channel Width Auto
  5. Wireless 5Ghz Channel 36
  6. Wireless 2.4 Protocol "g\n Only" or "N Only"
  7. Wireless 2.4Ghz Channel Width Auto
  8. Wireless 2.4Ghz Channel 6
  9. Both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz Wireless Security "WPA2 Personal" not mixed

The trick is that MP needs to be correctly configured once and then enabled and disabled. After that you can decide if MP is needed. This initializes the QOS system properly.

DHCP Settings on Linksys Routers appear persistent when enabling Bridge Mode

I own a WRT3200ACM and I just discovered that when you enable Bridge Mode from stock settings on the router, the "Status" page still states that the DHCP server is enabled. I have not tested if that is actually the case, but when returning to full functionality and turning off the DHCP server before returning to Bridge Mode, the "Status" page now states that DHCP is disabled.

If DHCP status is indeed persistent when switching to Bridge Mode that would be a huge problem. At least it would be a visual bug, at worst it could cause issues in your network that would be very hard to troubleshoot. Please fix.

Hi, @routerwars

Were you able to connect the laptop to the router before? If so, were you able to tap the refresh button on the Network Map Tool page and see if it disappears? If not, you may give it a try.

Hi, @routerwars

This is a bit odd. Let us check on this. Since when did you start to notice this issue? Please provide us a screenshot of it so that we can have a better look.

Advice needed on Setup Xfinity gateway (with wireless) + E4200 + WRT1900ACS

Hello All

Would LOVE some advice on how to optimize our home network.  3 Floors that need wifi and we have 3 devices to use - Just need to know the best way to configure.

Typical house 3 boys, lots of devices, streaming, gaming etc.

Device 1 – Modem - Xfinity Arris TG1682G

  • cable modem wifi router with 4 ethernet out
  • fast internet here 190+
  • Modem is in the basement and then Cat5 connections through the house to the 2 routers through a gb switch

Device 2 – Linksys E4200 - Dual-Band N Router

Device 3 - Linksys WRT1900 ACS Gigabit WiFi Wireless Router

Questions:

  1. Same wifi name throughout the house?
  2. wifi 2.4 and 5wifi 5 -- dedicated  or combined?
  3. Linksys routers in Bridged Mode? Any tricks? Things to set/keep in mind?
  4. What else to think about / do / configure

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR YOU TIME AND HELP

Hi kingkong2022

If I may ask, did you create a different password for your 5GHz band? If yes, make sure you input it on your laptop so it'll remember it and make sure that you inpute the correct credentials. Also, can your laptop connect to your 2.4GHz band or not? is there any other device/s that's experiencing this?

Hi

I did set up the same password for both 2.4 and 5Ghz. It's very strange that my laptop can connect to the same wireless via my phone hotspot. But, it cannot connect directly to the router. And the laptop wireless card IPv4 reports completely unusual IP address.

I think there are no additional words to say that the EA9500 does NOT work with the current firmware..

Almost one year ago I've spent almost two months sending reports to the support and documenting the wrong things that both the router and the associated App were doing (I've the all mail and doc exchanged with Linksys)... and eventually I shelved it and reverted to the previous X3500 that is managing my environment that included new devices not perfectly but at least decently..

Hoping that the very expensive EA9500 would have deserved some attention (at least the same as the useless smartphone App that now and then is being updated) I've been checking the Linksys site for a firmware update, but now reading that no new firmware is planned I'll be another one who definitely move away from a company that used to be a good networking company.

Internet speed drops by over 60% when I plug in my router

All, I'm running an EA6400 from a Spectrum (Time Warner spin off in FL) Cable Modem.  Router has been reset and I confirmed and uploaded the latest firmware.  When I plug directly into the modem from my workstation, I'm pulling down 233 Mbps.  When I put the router in the chain, it drops to 94 Mbps.  It's the exact same Cat 5 cable.  I changed the MTU from Auto to manual and set it at 1470 and got no change.  I also did the following after searching the boards:

  1. Enable Media Prioritization with Downstream Bandwidth set to ISP maximum download speed in mbps * 1024 for kbps
  2. Enable WMM Support (Default)
  3. Wireless 5Ghz Protocol Mixed
  4. Wireless 5Ghz Channel Width Auto
  5. Wireless 5Ghz Channel 36
  6. Wireless 2.4 Protocol "g\n Only" or "N Only" (I only have Auto or one or the other so it's on N)
  7. Wireless 2.4Ghz Channel Width Auto
  8. Wireless 2.4Ghz Channel 6 (I'm on 11 as a few neighbors are showing 6)
  9. Both 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz Wireless Security "WPA2 Personal" not mixed

All with no change.

I have Cut Through Fowarding enabled and again, no change.

MP is on with my workstation set as number 1, no change.  (no change when it's disabled for that matter)

I'm not happy with giving up that much loss at one connection.

Anyone have any ideas because I'm out of ideas and searches.

Thanks!

TJ
