Any tips on how to fix this? The power supply is high-quality, new, and has the right specs. And firmware is up to date.

EA6100 parental controls not working and unexpected 2118 error

My EA6100 router parental controls are not working.  I've done multiple tests on devices tyring to block specific websites such as facebook.com and youtube.com and these sites are not blocked.  Also, each time Iog into my router I get and "unexpected 2118  error".  The router has the latest firmware.  Does this mean my router needs to be replaced?  Looking for ideas on how to fix this.

If i reset my router to factory settings, does that mean that all devices on my network will need to be reconnected?

@3l3ctr0

Have you tried updating the OS version of your handheld devices? If not, try doing so. Also, since you mentioned that you downgraded the firmware, may we know where did you download the file? Can you share with us the firmware version that your router currently has?

Hi Lotsaproblems. Do you mean that the router keeps rebooting? Did you use the power supply that came with the router? You can try plugging the router on a different power outlet to observe if the same behavior occurs. If it exhibits the same behavior, send us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com so we can have our Support Team assist you further through there. Please include providing the following details:

  • Phone Number
  • Complete Address
  • Serial Number of the Router
  • Community Username
  • And the link to this post for easy reference

Hi Lezm001

The Error 2118 occurs when there is an IPv6 related error on your network. To resolve this issue, access your Linksys cloud account and go to Router Settings > Connectivity > Internet Settings > IPv6 and disable IPv6If this does not resolve the error, a factory reset of the device is required.  After resetting, upgrade the firmware of the router. When the firmware has been successfully updated, do another reset then proceed on reconfiguring your router.

When you said Parental Control is not working is this true for all connected device and are you trying to access this site via a web browser or using their specific apps?

Resetting the router to its factory default setting will disconnect all connected devices in the network and should need to reconnect them manually to your new network settings.

Thanks for the response.

When I say parental controls are not working I'm referring to devices that are only connected to wifi, no cellular signal.  As an example, if i block facebook.com and youtube.com on specific devices, those sites can still be accessed through those devices  both from an app and when going through a browser such as chrome.   using that example, shouldn't the linksys parental controls software work properly regardelss if the website was accessed through an app or an internet browser?

A question about the reset instructions that were provided, you mentioned two resets with a firmware upgrade in between, are both of those resets factory resets?

@Lezm001
The Parental Controls are unable to block app-based access but should be able to block browser-based internet access. It is also unable to block IPv6 addresses and maybe the reason you can access the blocked website using the internet browser. BTW, were you able to try disabling the IPv6 as previously suggested by ?
Regarding your 2nd query, yes. Both resets are factory resets.

Thanks for the information, i haven't had a chance to disable the IPv6 yet.  I'll try this tonight when I can work on this again.  You did just educate me on something that is very important and not explained anywhere when purchasing a linksys router and that is the fact that the parental controls will not work with "apps".  That is a serious flaw since so many devices now use apps.  This means I need to explore other hardware options available from other companies since it doesn't sound like the linksys parental controls system is nearly as robust as was advertised.  Please correct me if i interpreted your note wrong?

Install a wifi analyzer app on your phone. Then look for your you SSIDs for wifi.  Theck 2.4 and 5 ghz ranges.  If you see them running for a while, then dropping to 0, then coming back on, then you have a defective routers. I had two.  The third was fine.

Hi

So looks like V3 hardware isn't compatible with the new V4 release....

What would happen with future secutiry releases for V3 hardware, would Linksys abandone V3 hardware updates?

Thx

@francorrales

You may refer to our Linksys Security Advisory page for any vulnerability concerns. We also advise that you download the correct firmware file for the hardware version of the router to avoid any future setbacks that may cause it.

OpenVPN server must be updated : security risk !

Router: WRT1200ACv2

firmware version: 2.0.6.191786

When I connect with openvpn, I got the following messsage:

  1. WARNING: --ns-cert-type is DEPRECATED.  Use --remote-cert-tls instead
  2. WARNING: INSECURE cipher with block size less than 128 bit (64 bit).  This allows attacks like SWEET32.  Mitigate by using a --cipher with a larger block size (e.g. AES-256-CBC)
  3. WARNING: cipher with small block size in use, reducing reneg-bytes to 64MB to mitigate SWEET32 attacks.

This is far from today standar in vpn and create a security risk for the users.

This issue as been reported on onther devices (WRT1900, WRT3200...)  and no response has been given since one year or so.

This is an echo to the recent study on firmware securty update policy (https://securityledger.com/2019/08/huge-survey-of-firmware-finds-no-security-gains-in-15-years/).

Please solve this issue.

With better spelling not so late at night... Install a wifi analyzer app on your phone. Then look for your SSIDs for wifi.  Then check 2.4 and 5 ghz ranges.  If you see them running for a while, then dropping to 0, then coming back on, then you have a defective router. When they restart the signal, there is a pause like a reboot (maybe it is rebooting).  I had two (bought them refurbished) and returned them to retailer. The third was fine and runs great for over a year.

 The best way to check the vesion of hardware is looking for the model number of that particular device. And on the version of the filmware you can get some featurs more. You can have a click on my website to know more about it. Blog
