Hi JLB768. Can you show us a view or a drawing of your current network setup? You mentioned you have a NetGear AC4000 and a Linksys AC5400 working, do you mean that you have 2 separate networks or are they working as one? Are they cascaded? If so, you can check out this article as this might help improve your setup. Share with us more details so we can assist you further.

Got that @3l3ctr0,

Let's try changing the wireless channels for both 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. This will resolve issues of wireless interference to improve the performance and reliability of your network. Please refer to this link for the process. Observe its behavior for a couple of hours and let us know how it goes.

Hi @peacekeeper03,

Are you referring to the Mesh Technology? If so, please know that this router doesn't support mesh technology. This router is used for gaming which has the Killer™ Prioritization Engine to identify, prioritize, and accelerate your gaming traffic above all other devices and activities on your home Wi-Fi.

If you're interested in Mesh Technology, we have a product that supports that. You can check this link to know more about it.

THX for the fast reply.

I'm not that deep into this. It haven't to be the exact technology.

The product in your link is not what I'm looking for.

More like the WRT3200 without the Killer Engine.

More into my case:

I have a house with three stories and a LAN cable in each center right in the corner under the ceiling.

The cables are wire to the internet in the tech room.

I want to have three routers mounted on the wall and connected via that LAN cable to the modem in  the tech room.

Inked-IMG-20180929-073937-LI

All routers should broadcast the same SSID´s.

It should be possible to walk from the bottom to the top without loosing WLAN connection or switching manually.

Which technology doesn't matter that much for me.

I read about WDS in DD-WRT. May this could work.

But I prefer to keep the stock firmware.

I had the Netgear AC4000 for one day, I returned it to the store because it was dropping connections. Instead of dealing with Netgears issues again, I bought the Linksys 5400, the Netgear AC4000 is gone. But while the Netgear was working yesterday morning, I was getting consistant 800's down, and 780's up. When I connected the Linksys, I set it up just as as I did the Netgear...I didn't turn on any of the bells and whistles, just went through the linksys setup process, and made the connection. I kept the three radios seperate, put our Echo Dots/Google Mini's on 2.4. Four TV's on 5G1, and an Xbox on 5G2. Highest speeds I can pull on the Linksys so far, is 500 down, and 250ish up. The Netgear was much faster than this LInksys, and it was an inferior router.

WRT32X Port Forwarding Settings

Hello.

I have recently switched to WRT32X from WRT1900AC. WRT32X is quite nice. However, when I was setting up port forwarding settings earlier, I had encountered several problems.

Network background:

Router IP: 10.0.0.1

Subnet: 10.0.0.0/16

1. I have a server with the IP 10.0.1.20. When I was creating a rule, the IP address was locked at 10.0.0.xxx, I could not type 10.0.1.xxx (my subnet is 255.255.0.0, and the router knows that). Is there any way I can type in addresses other than 10.0.0.xxx? As IP re-assigning for all my servers in my network seems not to be feasible.

2. The other problem is, let's say I want to forward external port 123 to internal port 234. I could not find such an option in the port forwarding rule. Did I miss something in the setting? Again, port re-assigning for all my servers is not preferable.

I found the new UI is not quite user-friendly. Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

Stephanie M.

Hi peacekeeper03. Based on the network description and what you want to achieve with the routers. It is best for you to cascade your Linksys routers as LAN to LAN. To have one SSID within your household. For instructions on how to do so, check out this link. Also, to have a better picture of the setup, check out this video. Give us feedback after.

Hi StephanieM.

Were you able to follow the port-forwarding setup steps provided on this link?

Do you have the required information to forward in your Linksys WRT32X router? Also, make sure that the IP addresses you input in the router is in the range. After that, do not forget to tick on the "save" buton. Circle back for feedback after.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick reply.

Maybe you have misunderstood my problem. Let me clarify my problem.

In my network, I am using 10.0.0.0/16 subnet, meaning that 10.0.0.1-10.0.255.255 is in the same network and addresses within this range are valid addresses. My router is holding the IP 10.0.0.1.

Now, I want to forward all traffic from <external IP>:123 to 10.0.1.20:234. As you can see in this page, I cannot change port while forwarding, for example, <external IP>:123 can only be forwarded to <an internal IP>:123, and that is not what I am looking for. Besides, there is a bug (?) in the port forwarding config page. The IP address entry in a forwarding rule is prefilled as 10.0.0.___, but my server's IP address is 10.0.1.20 (it is a 100% valid address).

I am a long-time Linsys user, still missing the old user-friendly GUI in WRT54G. The smart GUI in WRT1900AC is alright. And now the new GUI is just pain the butt.

This router is designed only to support Class C subnet.

Yes.  I've done multiple resets, confirmed the firmware is current and tried multiple cables although the router crashes when no cables are attached.  I was able to flash partitian 2 with DD-WRT and the failure occurs when booted from that partitian as well.

Hi fancygoat. When you say reset, do you mean to say resetting to default settings or rebooting the device (turning on/off)? What's the LED status of your Linksys device (solid or flashing)?

Can you elaborate on this statement: " the router crashes when no cables are attached."

Which cable are you referring to?

  1. The cable that's connecting your modem and the router (from modem to "Yellow" Internet port of the router)?
  2. The cable that's connecting your router to the device you are using for troubleshooting?

Please confirm, so we can check the setback accordingly.

It crashes with the Internet port connected to the modem setup as an AP. It crashes with one of the lan ports connected to a PC setup as a client bridge with no connection to the Internet port, and it crashes just sitting on the desk with no wired ethernet connections. If I turn it off and back on immediately, it will not complete the POST correctly. If I let it sit for 15 minutes of so and turn it back on then it boots up and works for about 15 - 20 minutes then crashes. The same thing occurs in all scenarios above booted to the standard firmware or dd-wrt.

Can you give us a brief description of your network setup? The modem you have (ISP provided), does it have a modem/router capability? You mentioned about AP (Access Point), do you mean to say that your Linksys router is setup as an Access Point to your Modem? Also, about the firmware you mentioned. Did you load a DD-WRT firmware on to your WRT1900ACS version 2 router? Are you certain that you download the correct DD-WRT firmware version for your Linksys router? As this may be the culprit of the issue.

The router was crashing before I flashed it with 3rd party firmware.  That's why tried dd-wrt, but the router exhibited the same symptoms.  I've tested multiple configurations and the router will crash in each case.  My plan is to use the router as a wireless repeater to extend the range of my wifi.  My ISP router is a combo router / DSL modem and runs normally as the primary wifi AP.  To test the Linksys as a AP I disabled wifi on the ISP router and configured the Linksys as an AP.  That works fine with both the Linksys firmware and dd-wrt, but it crashes after about 15 minutes.

Again, my desire is to use the Linksys as a secondary wifi device to extend the range of wifi in the house.  That works with the Linksys connecting 5G to my ISP router and bridging 2.4G / LAN connections.  But, it crashes after about 15 minutes.

Hello,

I'm so confused on what the directions are. At the top of the post you give directions on what to change in the settings. Then towards the bottom of the post you list several other changes. Does one supercede the other? At the top you put down that you changed the "Channel Width" to "20MHz, then at the bottom of the post it says "Wireless 2.4 Ghz Channel Width Auto".... it's confusing to someone who stumbles across a post like this. I would love to make these changes to my EA9500 V2 because I'm also having the same issues.  Could you possible elaborate a little more or word it in a friendlier way so dumbo's like me could understand?

**On another note, I am not able to change the Wireless 5Ghz Protocol/mixed/channels, etc.. If I turn off band steering it would allow me to make those changes but no where in this post does it mention it. Any help you could provide is appreciated, thank you.

**I do have the latest firmware, I did a hard reboot of the router a million times, I reset it to factory default settings like 1,000x but still nothing. On a side note, when I'm in the settings page from my router, when I click on the "Security" tab, and I want to jump froom one tab to another, it keeps asking me if I want to save the changes I've made to it.... but I didn't make any changes. If I click on cancel from the popup asking me to save the changes or not, then it goes back to the main security tab screen but if I hit save the chanes then it goes a little crazy on me, it stops responding, it freezes, its just not behaving like it should.

i've been a loyal linksys customer for yrs, but i'm not sure what the plans are for wifi6.  some laptops are coming out with wireless ax chipsets, and I aim to obtain one later this yr.   hopefully linksys has a plan, because there isn't any info anywhere i can find about it.

at some point, folks like me are going to look to one of the other router companies.
