For some reason I have between 31 and 34 Mbps download speed when plugged in (wired) to my router from my tower computer, but when using the laptop (wireless) I get about 35 Mbps download. I would think the wireless would be slower not the otherway around. Upload is also faster on wireless (on the laptop) but that is much closer .. 4.45 upload wired (desktop) and 4.46 upload wireless on the laptop..
destop is running windows 8 with a quad core q6600 2.4 ghz intel cpu and 4 gigs of ram.
laptop is an intel b950 2.10ghz cpu and 4 gigs of ram and running windows 7
i have not updated the firmware on the router
any ideas of why i am getting slower speeds on the wired side of things
No other routers in the area that I can pickup
ISP is cable and modem is a Motorola SURFboard SB5101 with Dynamic IP
Download Sd around 12 to 14 mbps and Upload around 1.3 to 1.5 mbps
Changed cable between router and Modem when I got the new router
I'll have to check what the ISP MTU requirements are, don't know at this time
Don't think the modem has a router as there are no other slots to plug anything into it
I recently had a dedicated line ran to the modem from the pole to reduce any noise, signal was very good once this was done.
Wireless modes are both 2.4 and 5,
channels 1 and 11 seem to be more consistent in strength but the tech suggested 6 at last call,
both 2.4 and 5 are set to mixed, I will change 2.4 to something other than what it is and see and will change channel width to auto again,
security mode is set to WPA2 Personal
wireless devices are X-Box, smart phones and other computers
Only other devices on 2.4 or 5 are home phones
will try setting manual channels for strongest signal using wifi analyzer app,
thanks for the help, Neal
When I try to change the allowable user times for my kids itouch I get error code 2183.
I have EA6500 V1 running firmware 1.1.29.16235 I have reset by router from scratch. I have uninstalled and then downloaded and reinstalled the latest lynksys smart wifi setup. Time zones of control computer and router are same.
The error code has following details:
/jnzp/parentalcontrol/SetparentalcontrolsSetting - Status: 200 OK Date SUN. 28 Sep 21014 01:55:29 GMT Server:
lightpd/1:4.34 Connection: close Content-Length: 39 Content-Type: application/json: charset-utf-8
I'm ready to trash the router and get something non-cisco.
Any help?
some days back, my internet router dropped most of my devices from the links router and when i enter my password now it says it is incorrect. I have password written down from when i created it. I have only had this router a couple of months. how could this have happened? now i have several devices in my home that can not access wifi.
has anyone else had this happen? how did you fix it?
thanks
Sorry guys I just occupied on my business so late reply.
Actually the problem is resolved, once I unplug all the wires, refresh firmware version and reset the setting.
But I don't know what's the actual conflict between EA6900 and PS3 and PC.
Anyway it's resolved, thanks all of your suggestion.
Hello FerryNutz-Thanks for the information. I did a print configuration to get the information needed to perform the tasks suggested by HP support. My problem is I do not know how to perform the task that I didnot do. I will check the operator's manual. Thanks.
I recently upgraded my internet package with Comcast/Xfinity. With my new plan I am supposed to get download speeds of 105Mbps after the first few days of running speed test I noticed that my speeds had not changed one bit and that I was still get 24 Mbps at best, I immediately called Comcast hoping that I could get to the bottom of this situation. After talking to one of their employees he told me that it was the fact that I was using my own routers instead of theirs and that I would have to contact the manufactures of my networking equipment. At this point I got a little upset and wanted to know why my routers had to be the cause of this issue. So I proposed to him that I take out the ethernet port from the router and plug it directly into the computer and test it out well when I did I got 85 Mbps and the test basically proved that my networking equipment is the culprit so here is the dilema what do I do. Currently I have had Comcast put theri modem/router into bridge mode so none of the router features are functioning I really wanted to keep my routers on since they are 802.11 AC while the Comcast router only supports wireless N. I have botth the Linksys AE6200 and AE6300 with one setup in bridge mode. I was wondering taking the Comcast router out of bridge mode and then putting my other Linksys router into bridge mode. The only issue I have with this is the Comcast router is using 10.0.0.1 as the gateway while my routers are using 192.168.1.1 as the gateway. When I tried to switch my router that is already in bridge mode to the 10.0.0.1 as a gateway I got an error message saying that I couldn't because the addresses where out of range. Does anyone know how I can change the parameters of the range in which I can set addresses or have any theory as to why I wouldn't be getting anywhere close to what I am getting.
FurryNutz thanks for reply.
In summery the issue is resolved, but to answer some of the questions and possibly help future readers.
Firmware was updated via SMart Setup when first turn on. (Log onto router, config ADSL settings, Auto update starts...).
PC is wired via CAT6 to CISCO 24port then wire to WRT1900
Placemen:
I am aware router placement may effect Wireless performance, it is currently sitting on top of my 24RU server rack, but i am not too concerned about wifi as it is not being used.
ADSL Connection: Still on auto but ->MTU 1492 (under manual) as recommended by my ISP
What fixed it?
I don’t really know. I've factory reset it and reconfigured everything manually. QoS did not effect my testing however i did switch off Auto Update "feature". It seems to have come good now. I am not sure if there were some residual issues from FW update or the Auto Update was randomly poling. I did try to turn it back on but had no effect.
Unfortunately i have no golden bullet. It just started working, which is a little annoying but i'll keep an eye on it.
I would recommend users not to auto update during setup but do it manually. Also switch off this "feature" to reduce any anomalies. I am not sure if Auto update cares if there is traffic on WAN / LAN before it does it's thing. It would be great if Linksys changed this "feature" to "Update Notification" rather than auto update. Get the user notified of update in SmartWiFi over local and remote access.
Local ISP ping is solid at 13ms general gaming is as expected 50-85ms depending on server locations. 24hour so far so good. Generally happy with router. All menus have come good and everything working as expected. Internal Fan is not turning on and both 2.4ghz and 5Ghz work well for home devices.
I've just upgraded from an E3000 to a WRT1900AC.
Everything works great in terms of range and speed, but my port forwarding settings aren't working.
I use port forwarding to view my home security cameras remotely. It connects through a static IP address outside my DHCP range that the DVR then forwards to a ddns on dvrlink.net. ie: http://<my_uinique_string>.dvrlink.net
On the old E3000, everything works great, and I can view my cameras on my phone (I just plugged it back in and it still works). I used the old interface to set it up through the router Administration settings. (I can post a screenshot later if needed).
On my new WRT1900AC, the ports just won't open when I set them under Security > Apps and Gaming > Single Port Forwarding:
Am I missing something here? No matter what I try, I can't view my cameras from my phone, unless it's the E3000 hooked up and doing the forwarding. I've tried over Wifi and LTE, but can only view them from the local IP address, not the external (supposedly forwarded) address.
Any help is much appreciated. I set up the router settings manually, instead of using the Linksys wizards. I updated to the latest firmware version (1.1.8.161917). I have not tried factory resetting yet, but that seems like a timely effort that might not work.
Yes, running the latest firmware.
And FurryNuts, the light should remain steadly on during normal operation.
Wireless speed at the signal level is by:
For AC speeds you have to have and AC adapter.
Yes you are right. Metal will shield wireless signals.
Hardware the devices with Cat5e cable.
Glad it's working...hope it keeps working...maybe something finally got set or configured.
Then the XB1 should work on either 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz...

What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>http://www.practicallynetworked.com/networking/fixing_double_nat.htm and http://cognitiveanomalies.com/cisco-nat-how-nat-works/. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.
