Hey guys,
I have been reading this thread from beginning to end. You know what? I have the same problems/symptoms BUT I have a different brand router and USB disk!
I found this thread by Google search my symptoms, which is files turning into folders. I have also had a lot of files disappear on me (I have only noticed movie files so far). I store movie files of all formats, as well as some music and a lot of family photos.
It seems to me that some of you guys have lost a lot more stuff than I have, but I haven't gone through all the family photo folders yet. I believe I have most of it backed up on a NAS anyway (my media disk being the second backup).
So I read in an early post that someone was thinking that perhaps they should buy an ASUS router instead of the Linksys one. Well, think again. My problems occurred on an ASUS RT-N56U with a 2TB Verbatim NTFS disk connected to it. Otherwise, It's the same story; USB disk with NTFS used as a Media Server. I am running Win7 to transfer files to my disk and an Xtreamer Prodigy media player to stream the movie files to my TV.
Unfortunately, I don't know exactly when the files have disappeared or converted into folders. It seems to have happened randomly, except that sometimes I have lost whole folders with whole seasons of TV series episodes. I noticed today that one FLAC file in a folder of maybe 25 files had turned into a folder. And it's not the first or last file in the folder.
I have gotten some help here as to what to do to recover files and format the disk to the HFS+ file system. I guess I'll try that. But I just wanted to let you guys know that the problems you are discussing apply to other routers/disks than the ones you own.
Cheers,
Joachim
