Guys,
This issue is real and completely isolated to the hardware on the Linksys e2500.
I too recently within the past 48 hours noticed significant decrese in speads for all devices connected to the router. I'm suppose to get 15 mb download speeds from my ISP but barely reach speeds of 2 mb.
Here is my timeline to things I did to test out issue.
- I tested speed directly from the modem and all was fine there 16 mb/s.
- I hardwire my laptop directly into free ethernet port onrouter and have 2 mb/s download speeds.
- I upgraded Linksys firmware to latest version with laptop hardwided in and still have 2 mb/s download speeds.
- I flashed router with open source version of Shibby Tomato. Still stuck at 2 mb/s.
- I got rid of Linksys and replaces with Apple airplay router I had laying around and now have normal 16 mb/s.
- Frustrated and confused at this point I disable DHCP on Linksys and connect router as swith to my Apple Airplay router. This time all is good and I again have 16 mb/s.
- Now I finally remove Airplay and go back to original setup with my laptop connected to my Linksys with DHCP enabled, connected to modem. Speeds are back to a dissapointing 2 mb/s.
Something is off with the harware on the Linksys. Not sure what but something has got to give.
