E2500 high activity, dropping WiFi connections and no DHCP

I have an E2500 router (v1) at home and several at our church.  The problem we are experiencing is that the wifi connections are becoming very inconsistant and the router becomes very busy at prime times throughout the day.  Devices either cannot connect to wifi at all or they connect and cannot get an IP address assigned or they connect briefly and drop within a few minutes.  This is true for a variety of devices (iPad, iPod, laptops, Apple TV, etc).

What we have tried:

- reboot from within the web management counsole

- hard reboot/restart using both the reset button and removing power for 10+ seconds

- reset to factory settings ans set up secured wireless again

In all cases, the problem will correct itself for a short period, but eventually return to similar patterns.  I looked for a new firmware update, but nothing newer than our current version (1.0.07).

I saw notes about a denial of service/hack that is now targeting routers with older firmware.  I have secured these routers (be notes on this board) as much as possible.

Is there a firmware update expected or is this generation of the router no longer support (e.g. buy something new)?

Any thoughts on other options to look at to improve stability?
