Hi raedell. CAT 5e or Category 5e cable, according to some networking sites, provides performance of up to 100 MHz and is suitable for 10Base-T, 100Base-TX (Fast Ethernet) and 1000Base-T (Gigabit Ethernet). Your speed depends on how much speed your ISP gave you. It will only depends on the router you'll connect your computer to the said router using an Ethernet cable. Say for example, if your ISP gave you fast internet connection speed and your computer has a Gigabit LAN card but you're using WRT54G2. What will happen is that, you can't take advantage of the fast Gigabit speed since router can only provide maximum of 100Mbps wired connection speed. However, if your router is properly configured, then using CAT 5e cable to the said router, should work.
